Wikis in the Classroom Wednesday, Sep 24 2008

I think that a Wiki is a great tool. I know that i use wikipedia all the time. In my future math classroom, the students could use a wiki to share on a group math project. Where each of them had to do a different problem but the whole assignment was turned in as a group. Also, I thought this would be good for sports too. Especially when the kids want to get a party or dinner together. A wiki would be a great way to get the athletes and the parents communicating on the same page.

I really like this wiki alot. First of all, for anyone that is unfamilar with a wiki and how to use it, this page gives a brief overview of what you should do. Math isn’t the easiest subject to incorporate technology into, so this page gives 7 or so different ways to use a wiki. Even if you already have a wiki for a specific classroom, this is another way to get more ideas

Tech Apps for Beginning Teachers Tuesday, Sep 16 2008

I feel that I am where i need to be after reading the Technology Applications BUT I feel that I need new ideas. I would never have thought to use some of our resources that are available to us like excel and powerpoint because I have HARDLY ever been taught by them.

I know that I am good with a computer and usually can grasp the concept of pretty much any technology that I am throw into but I feel that my ideas could use some revamping. I had a teacher tell me that conferences in your subject were the best way to get new ideas, so I will defently be attending as many as these as possible. I know that growing up, I always knew more about computers than my peers did but I do not want the students I teach to be able to show me up on a computer. Even though its ok for them to teach me things, I am their teacher so I want to be able to show them more than they can so me. Thats what I’m there for right?! 🙂

Multiple Intelligences Tuesday, Sep 9 2008

After reading the assigned reading it just really clarified the thoughts that I had on multiple intelligences. That people can be intelligent in many different ways which directly effects the way that they are able to learn. I think that everyone understands the basic ways to learn. Visual, auditory and physical learning. I feel that I have always been a mixture of the three. The website really just helped to give other ways to learn things.

Even though I personally feel that I could learn something any of these 8 ways, I know that some of the work better for me than others would. For example, I know that I am a very logical learner. I want to teach math and math is a subject I have always been good in. Most likely for the way that it has been taught to me. I also think that Kinesthetic  would be another way that I could learn well. I have been an athlete all my life and am very familar with the way my  body works. Sometimes I think that this is my strongest assets.

I think that technology has always played a huge part in my learning process. I feel that is has helped me gain other ways to learn and learn new skills at the same time. Without having grown up using technology I feel that it is so vital because it incorporates so many skills together and ITS NOT GOING ANYWHERE!! So wouldn’t it be better to get acquainted with it then be scared of it ?

Is Power Point Dead? Tuesday, Sep 2 2008

I feel that power point is a very valuable but underused program in the classroom. I know that many presentations are done with powerpoint and some teachers do use them a lot in the same repetitive way. I never really thought that power point could be used in so many ways.

There are quite a few ways to use powerpoint in very creative ways. You can use them to teach the kinds by making games. I think the idea of having a presentation up when the students walk in to give them instructions for the class period saves a lot of energy and time.  They students can just walk in and look up and see what needs to be done for the day. You can even use this idea for P.E. classes when they students are stretching.
I really like the idea of making the power point interactive. Teaching the students how do basic math problems in the edit is really neat.

So , No power point is not dead. Some people just need to think outside the box and will see that there are many, many ways to use powerpoint.
